Another week has gone

It's amazing how quickly this happens. Blink and the week is gone.

Monday we had our quiet day - we went away as a fellowship group (cell group) and spent the day in beautiful Woodborough. We started off with Morning Prayer (how very Anglican) in a lovley little old church which was surrounded by snowdrops. As part of Morning Prayer we had a meditation with a few questions that we should ask ourselves. Maybe you can ask yourself the same questions:
  • What are you investing in?
  • What have you set your sights on?
  • Who (or what) are you serving?
  • What keeps you awake at night?
Hard questions, but it was good to ask them.

Then we had 3 hours of silence. Believe it or not, I managed to keep that silence, even with 8 other people in the immediate vicinity, all of whom I love dearly.

Then Monday evening we had 'Worship Sp ace', a time where we can just worship, with space for ourselves (as the name suggests - duh!). That was great too. Very alternative, with DJ worship and visuals to start with and then live worship from the fabulous Jo and band. People got touched by God and encouraged and ministered to.

The rest of the week was taken up with learning. The Arian heresies (that's a guy who lived aroundabout 300 AD, nothing to do with Nazi Germany...) as well as the three other heresies...uhm...Apollinaris (which is a bottled water in Germany), Eutyches (sounds like a cough sweet to me) and Nestorius the pantomime horse. Thrilling. Not.

The problem I have with all this is that I can't help but think that I don't know anyone, or even heard of anyone, who has been argued into the Kingdom. It's usually God doing his supernatural stuff, and we hang around to help out every now and then. And as my mate James pointed out 'if they get argued into the Kingdom, then someone can argue them out of the Kingdom just as easily'. So sack Arian heresies, let's go out there and tell people about Jesus!!!

As I started to read this blog I was thinking, 'How pleasant to spend time like that.' Then I read on - less pleasant! While this historical stuff can be interesting in its own way you are absolutely right about not being able to argue people into a Christian faith. So get in there evangelizing.
